The software Suspension Design can be used both to analyze the
behavior and the setting of the suspensions, both to study and to
find the features of the suspensiond to have a specific balance of
the racing motorbike.
In the software you must simply enter the specifications geometric
and phisical of the motorbike, those of the rider, the geometry of
the kinematic of the rear suspension, and the setting of the fork
and of the shock.
These data are all easily detectable with simple measurements.
At this point the software allows to analyze immediately:
FRONT SUSPENSION OPERATION |
in function of the characteristics of the fork, spring, air, oil |
REAR SUSPENSION OPERATION |
in function of the kinematic geometry |
MOTORBIKE BALANCE |
in function of the geometric and phisical features of the motorbike |
MOTORBIKE BALANCE - MOTORCYCLE SAG |
in function of the geometric and phisical features of the motorbike, and of the suspensions setting. |
MOTORBIKE BEHAVIOR ON THE JUMP |
is
possible to set the speed to face the jump, the ramp and the height of the jumps, and then evaluate the behavior of the
motorbike in the specific conditions that affect |
MOTORBIKE BEHAVIOR ON THE WHOOPS |
MOTORBIKE BALANCE WITH RIDER - RIDER SAG |
in
function of the phisical features of the rider, of the rider
position on the motorbike, and of the suspension setting. |
MOTORBIKE BALANCE ON ACCELERATION |
MOTORBIKE BALANCE ON BRAKING |
MOTORBIKE BALANCE ON CORNER |
FRONT SUSPENSION OPERATION
The front suspension forks in the motocross racing bike in
recent years have had an evolution that has led them to use
in addition to the traditional springs, even springs to
create from an air cushion, this has made more difficult to
interpret the settings. For this reason, the Suspension
Design Cross software has an area where by inserting the
main characteristics of the traditional spring or of the
chamber with air and oil it is possible to quickly evaluate
the real behavior of the fork according to its excursion. |

REAR SUSPENSION OPERATION
The rear suspension is
formed from a kinematic to obtain a variable stiffness curve,
therefore to know how work the suspension for the different
positions of the rear arm is fundmental to see which will be the
rear balance in function of the load that act.
The software Suspension Design can analyze the behavior of all the
main kinematic of rear suspension used in the current racing
motorbike (pro-link - pro-lever -
unit-pro-link - back-link - full-floater -mono-cross - unit-track)
 |
 |
Depending on the type of mechanism and its geometry, the software
calculates the shock movement in function of the wheel
movement from the ground, or in function of the rear arm
rotation angle. In addition calculates the lever ratio
between the force acting on the wheel and that on the shock.
In this way is easy to understand how change the stiffness
of the suspension during the movement, and evaluate
therefore eventuals modifications at the kinematic geometry
to optimize the operation of the suspension for your need. |
 |
This functionality of the software as well as in the
analysis of an existing suspension, can be used also to
design a new suspension or to modify the existing suspension
by varying the lengths of the linkages and thus obtaining
different progressivity for different needs. |
MOTORBIKE BEHAVIOR ON TRACK
In the drives on the cross tracks, in addition to braking, cornering and acceleration,
to face in the best way the jumps and the whoops, is essential to have the best performance. To do this it is necessary to have a specific suspension
setting that allows the maximum stability in every situation. The Suspension Design Cross software therefore simulates the behavior that the
racing cross motorbike has going on a jump or or the whoops, so you can see in advance how the suspension works according to the chosen settings, and then go to optimize the set-up for different tracks and needs.
ON A JUMP |
It is simulated to face a jump, being able to set the attack
speed, the angle of the ramp, and the height of the jump. It
will therefore be possible to evaluate all the situations
that the different cross tracks present. |
|
|
 |
 |
 |
ON THE WHOOPS |
It is simulated to face a series of jumps (whoops), being
able to set the attack speed, the angle of the ramps, the
height of the jumps, and the number of jumps. It will
therefore be possible to evaluate then this very present
phase in the cross tracks and that is an hard test for the
suspensions. |

As you have seen from this brief description, the Suspension Design
Cross software allows you to see the operation of the suspension in
all conditions and how this affects the balance of the racing cross
motorbike
both from a static point of view and in the main driving phases,
this
allows you to evaluate and compare the different suspension set-ups
by predicting how these will influence the balance and thus helping
you to modify the set-up according to the needs of the rider and
of the track that arise from time to time.
