SUSPENSION DESIGN - suspensions operation

The first calculations carried out by the software allow the static behavior of the suspensions to be analysed
FRONT SUSPENSION

The behavior of the fork is linked to the features of the spring, or the air chamber, present in the fork. The software calculates based on the data entered

FORCE DEVELOPED BY THE FORK AS A FUNCTION OF THE MOVEMENT
and if the fork has both a spring and an air chamber, that work in parallel, it also shows the respective components
SPRING FORCE AS A FUNCTION OF THE MOVEMENT
AIR FORCE AS A FUNCTION OF THE MOVEMENT
if in addition to the features of the fork, it's also entered the angle that it forms with the chassis, it is calculated

REAR SUSPENSION

The rear suspension is not direct, but has a kinematic mechanism that transmits the force from the wheel to the shock absorber.

One of the most important features of the software Suspension Design is to calculate the behavior of the kinematic mechanism, which is fundamental to understanding how the suspension will work in the different operating conditions.

Based on the geometric data of the kinematic mechanism, the software calculates:

SHOCK MOVEMENT IN FUNCTION OF WHEEL MOVEMENT
SHOCK FORCE / WHEEL FORCE RATIO IN FUNCTION OF THE WHEEL MOVEMENT
WHEEL CENTER POSITION RELATIVE TO THE SWING ARM PIVOT

In addition to the graphs, the software shows an animation of the suspension operation, with all the significant quantities highlighted in real time:

These calculations are very important because during the design or development phase of the suspension, it is easy to see how by modifying the dimensions of the linkages of the kinematics, or the length of the shock absorber, the behavior of the suspension can be varied.

If the features of the shock absorber and transmission are entered, the software then calculates:

WHEEL MOVEMENT IN FUNCTION OF THE VERTICAL LOAD APPLIED
WHEEL MOVEMENT IN ACCELERATION PHASE FOR CHAIN FORCE EFFECT AND WEIGHT TRANSFER

The effect of the chain force is extremely important because it influences the motorbike balance (squat), for this reason the software is very useful in the development or design phase of the suspension, to optimize this aspect too:
