SET-UP Kart Simulator is a software
studied to allow at technicians to find fastly and with
precision the best technical solution in the development phase,
and to find the best kart setup on track. The software allows to
maximize the kart performance, and to find the setup to obtain
the best lap time, and to give at the driver the feeling more
suitable at the characteristic driving style. |

Presentation
|
The experience that you accumulate on track is very important, but
often there isn't the possibility to try all the technical choices
that you'd like, or there isn't the time to find the best setup on a
specific track, or with specific conditions.
Therefore to have a disposition a simulation software is fundmental
to multiply your experience and to test fastly the different
solutions finding the best, before and better of your competitors.
NT-Project has developed in these years this software creating calculation
models between the most sophisticated in the whole racing sector, at
the purpose to analyze with the maximum precision every aspect that
affects the kart performance.

How it works? |
In the software you must enter the technical features of the kart,
and the choices of setup that you want testing, and the software
simulates the best performance that is possible to obtain with that
configuration, and the behaviour of driving of the kart.
The software SET-UP Kart Simulator takes account of all the features
that affect the performance and the behaviour of the kart, anyway as
we'll see later are all data findables easily, with simple
measurements, or easy experimental tests.
KART AERODYNAMICS |
|
The aerodynamics drag is one aspect that affects the
performance, for this has been obtained and studied the
values more usuales for the kart of the different
categories. These data are already inserted in the software. |
CHASSIS GEOMETRY |
The main dimensions of the chassis, the angles of the C (kingpin
and caster) are fundmentals for the distibutions of the
loads on the wheels in the different driving conditions.
These data are presents in the homologation fiche of the
chassis, or are easily measurables. |

CHASSIS FEATURES |
The material used and the dimensions, of the chassis tubes,
and of the spindle, are fundmental for the flexural
behaviour of the chassis, and therefore to evaluate the
camber angle that the tyres have in all the driving
conditions, acceleration, braking, and corner.
These data are in the homologation fiche, and are easily
measurables, furthermore are integrated with the elasticity
informations already detected and inserted in the software. |

The torsional stiffness is probably the feature that more
affects the behaviour of the chassis, and therefore the
choices of setup that you must perform, because determines
the chassis roll and the lifting of the rear wheel on
corner. Thanks at one of our free utility
is sufficient to have two or four scales to find easily this
important data. |

KART BALANCE |
The balance of the kart and gravity height, are the main
factor that affect the dynamic behaviour of the kart ,
therefore to know these data is very important.

TYRE FEATURES |
In the competitions today the tyre is key aspect, because if
you don't succeed to explot at the best the tires, all the
work on the engine, on the chassis, and of the driver, come
nullified.
For this reason great part of the work performed for this
software has been studied deeply the features of the kart
tyres. The main data are all presents in the homologation
fiche of the tyres. |

TYRE PLY FEATURES |
Together at the dimensions and at the general features of
the tyres, is of fundmental importance for the tyre
behaviour to know the features of the carcass ply, for this
in our little laboratory, optimally managed from Bruno, and
thanks to the help of the friends Salvatore and Stefano,
we've made technical tests fundmentals to complete the
knowledge of the tyres, in addition at the informations
indicated in the homologation fiche. In fact we've
determined the ply stiffness of all the main kart tyres,
evaluating also as the stiffness change in function of the
temperature, to see how happen to the tyre slip in the real
operating conditions. |

ENGINE POWER and
GEARBOX RATIO |
|
The power provided
from the engine obviously is one of the aspects more
influentials the performance of the kart. Same
speech for engine with gearbox about the ratio of
the different shift gears. In the software you must
therefore enter the power curve of the engine
detected at the dyno, and the number of teeth of
the gears for each ratio, that are indicated in the
homologation fiche of the engine.
If you don't have the possibilty to test the engine
at dyno, in the software SET-UP Kart
Simulator there is a functionality that allows to
calculate with precision the power curve of the
engine exploiting the data acquired from your
acquisition system in a session on track. |

TRACK LINE |
|
The track line
chooses from the driver affects significantly the
lap time, for this in the software SET-UP Kart Simulator
together to be inserted the lines used on the main
tracks and categories of Italy and of the world,
is possibile to use the data
acquired from your acquisition system to calculate
the track line, and therefore to perform the
simulations of set-up to exploit at the maximum the
driving of your driver. |

KART SET-UP |
|
After the data fixed for chassis, engine, tyres, and
track, you must enter the choices of setup that you
want testing. The software to compare three
configurations of kart setup, so will be easy to
make a comparison of the performance and of the
behaviour of the kart. The software allows to
compare the choices for:

Results
|
After that you've entered the technical data of the kart, and the
choices of setup that you want testing, the software SET-UP Kart Simulator in
a few seconds calculates the lap time, and the conditions of
oversteer and understeer that the driver must manage in function of
the setup used.

The lateral slip of the kart that the driver must manage with the
driving comes analyzed in the detail, in fact the software
calculates the slip angle, both at the front, both at the rear.
The calculation of the oversteer and understeer conditions that the
driver must manage is fundmental because the simulator uses a
virtual driver that succeeds to exploit at the best every setup,
instead the real driver succeeds to go at the maximum only with the
optimal driving feeling.
Apart the lap time, you can find the set-up that allows to have the best
facility of driving, helping, above all the young driver, to find
the optimal feeling, and therefore to race at the best.
Below we show an example of use of the software SET-UP
Kart Simulator to find the best setup. In this example evaluate the
effects of some modifications on the chassis setup.
After that you've entered the changes of setup that you want test,
in a few seconds the software SET-UP Kart Simulator calculates the
lap time for the two configurations, and the behaviour of oversteer
and understeer of the kart.

In this example the new configuration (blue) allows to improve the lap
time, and to reduce averagely the understeer of the kart. Thanks to
the software SET-UP Kart Simulator you can therefore to check again
before to go on track if the modifications that you think to make on
the setup, gone on the right direction. This will give you great
advantages above all in the race w.e where the time that you've is
few, and you need to be immediately fast.
Moreover if the software shows an improvement on the lap time, or on
the driving feeling, in the reality this will be again greater,
because the virtual driver succeeds to fill the defects of the setup
more than the real driver.

Together to the
global results, the effects of the setup modifications can
be analyzed in the details, watching for each sector of the
track where there avantages, or disadvantages, for speed, or
lateral slip.
|

This example shows how thanks to the software SET-UP Kart
Simulator is easy to analyze the choices technical, and of set-up,
that you can try, finding quickly and with precision the solutions
that allow to improve the performance and the driver feeling for his
driving style.
