SUSPENSION DESIGN is a software studied to help technicians and riders to analyze and to find the suspensions setting and the racing motorbike balance. In fact allows to analyze the behavior of the suspensions both from a static point of view, both in the main situations of driving, acceleration, braking and corner. So you could easily to see the balance that takes the motorbike in the differents driving phases and therefore to orientate with a bigger easiness the choices of set-up in the right direction.

How it works?

The software Suspension Design can be used both to analyze the behavior and the setting of the suspensions, both to study and to find the features of the suspensiond to have a specific balance of the racing motorbike.

In the software you must simply enter the specifications geometric and phisical of the motorbike, those of the rider, the geometry of the kinematic of the rear suspension, and the setting of the fork and of the shock.

These data are all easily detectable with simple measurements.

At this point the software allows to analyze immediately:

REAR SUSPENSION OPERATION in function of the kinematic geometry
MOTORBIKE BALANCE in function of the geometric and phisical features of the motorbike
MOTORBIKE BALANCE - MOTORCYCLE SAG in function of the geometric and phisical features of the motorbike, and of the suspensions setting.
MOTORBIKE BALANCE WITH RIDER - RIDER SAG in function of the phisical features of the rider, of the rider position on the motorbike, and of the suspension setting.

REAR SUSPENSION OPERATION

The rear suspension is formed from a kinematic to obtain a variable stiffness curve, therefore to know how work the suspension for the different positions of the rear arm is fundmental to see which will be the rear balance in function of the load that act.

The software Suspension Design can analyze the behavior of all the main kinematic of rear suspension used in the current racing motorbike (pro-link - pro-lever - unit-pro-link - back-link - full-floater -mono-cross - unit-track)

Depending on the type of mechanism and its geometry, the software calculates the shock movement in function of the wheel movement from the ground, or in function of the rear arm rotation angle. In addition calculates the lever ratio between the force acting on the wheel and that on the shock. In this way is easy to understand how change the stiffness of the suspension during the movement, and evaluate therefore eventuals modifications at the kinematic geometry to optimize the operation of the suspension for your need.

This functionality of the software as well as in the analysis of an existing suspension, can be used also to design a new suspension or to modify the existing suspension by varying the lengths of the linkages and thus obtaining different progressivity for different needs.

BALANCE - MOTORBIKE - MOTORBIKE on GROUND - MOTORBIKE with RIDER

In function of the features of the motorbike (wheelbase, weight and center of gravity), the software calculates the weight distribution and the loads on the wheels, moreover entering the suspension setting that you've or that you want testing, the software calculates the fork and shock movement putting the motorbike on ground (motorcycle sag) and  therefore how change the wheelbase, the weight distribution and the loads.

Finally entering the phisical features of the rider and its position on the motorbike, the software calculates the fork and shock movement with the motorbike on ground with the rider (rider sag) and  therefore how change the wheelbase, the weight distribution and the loads.

The software allows in fact to see how changes the center of gravity of the rider in function of the positions of the footpegs, of the saddle, and of the handlebars, and therefore you can preventively see how the position on the motorbike, together with the weight and the height of the rider, modify the balance of the motorbike. This allows you to act also on the rider position to improve your set-up.

CHASSIS SET-UP

Racing bikes allow you to make adjustments to change the geometry of some important chassis parameters. The Suspension Design software allows you to quickly see how the different adjustments change the chassis geometry and weight distribution.

The software allows you to see the effects that you have intervening on:

- offset steering - fork A - B;
- rake angle A - B;
- fork top height C;
- rear arm length D.

Once the new settings have been inserted, the Suspension Design software calculates how the main geometrical parameters are modified:

- Wheelbase;
- Rake Angle;
- Trail;
- Gravity Height.

and how change:

- Weight Distribution;
- Front and Rear Load;
- Fork Load.

Thanks to the software you can then see in detail the effects that these adjustments have on the motorbike balance.

MOTORBIKE BALANCE ON ACCELERATION - BRAKING and CORNER

The set-up of the suspensions besides to adsorb the ground roughness, is fundmental because determine the balance and therefore the dynamic of the motorbike in different phases of driving, for this the software, together with the static analysis of the balance, allows to simulate how changes the balance during the phases of acceleration, braking and corner.

ACCELERATION The software simulates an acceleration (fixing starting speed and longitudinal grip) and calculates how work the suspensions, and how therefore changes the motorbike balance. In the calculation the software take account also of the chain force for the position of the sprocket respect to the rear arm pivot.

BRAKING The software simulates a braking (fixing starting speed and longitudinal grip) and calculates how work the suspensions, and how therefore changes the motorbike balance. In the calculation is possible to simulate both a braking with front and rear brakes, both using the only front brake.

CORNER The software simulates entry and exit of a corner a constant speed (fixing starting speed and lateral grip) and calculates how work the suspensions, and how therefore changes the motorbike balance.
